Hypnosis is another arena of mental health that is filled with stereotypes. People may have various beliefs about those who undergo hypnosis, but the truth is that this art is considered a legitimate form of therapy to aid certain individuals. The issues that many people have regarding hypnosis are usually myths, but with a little investigating, a person will realize that they can truly benefit from hypnotherapy, if they simply give it a try.
One main concept that is completely lost in the understanding of hypnosis is that when a person is under, they will lose their freewill and the therapist is in complete control. Both of these are misunderstandings that have kept people away for years. While under hypnosis, a person is never being controlled and their wits are in tact at all times. The only thing that they experience is a more heightened sense of consciousness. This in turn can steer a person away from portraying a behavior that is trying to be altered.
One of the main myths that exist about hypnosis is that anyone can be hypnotized even if they do not want to. This is, again, very far from the truth. If one is not willing to experience hypnosis, then more than likely they will not be able to benefit from a series of hypnosis sessions. Even if one really desires to be placed in a trance, they still may not be suited for this form of treatment. Not everyone can be placed in a hypnotic state. Another myth that is also associated with hypnosis is that while under, one can lose all consciousness and subsequently develop amnesia. This is true for a very small fraction of people who try this alternative treatment. Some do experience spontaneous amnesia, but usually almost everyone will remember what happened while they were in a trance.
Hypnosis can be a great alternative to helping those who deal with issues such as smoking, stress and even weight. If a person is willing to put the stereotypes surrounding this art aside, then they can benefit immensely from undergoing hypnosis. The study of the brain is an amazing field and this treatment option is just one way in which scientists are left baffled by its capacity.

Hypnosis Facts & Tips
Even though hypnotherapy can be very effective, some people may be left with undesired results. Those who are experiencing various psychotic episodes, such as delusions, should not seek this form of therapy for treatment. Another group of people that may suffer poor effects from the use clinical hypnotherapy are those who are using drugs and/or alcohol. Even though people who smoke can use hypnotherapy to overcome their addiction, those who use harder drugs are not excellent candidates for hypnotherapy treatment.
